Willibaldstollen IV (Mining Trail 26)

Mining at Dörnberg has been documented since 1668. Even then, silver, lead and copper ores were mined here. In the following centuries, numerous tunnels were built to the ore veins, including the Willibaldstollen I to IV on the west side of the Dörnberg, just like on the neighboring Bastenberg
. ore was mined in two large mine fields: the Ostfeld in the area of the Aurora and Margarethen shafts and the Westfeld around Blindschacht 1. while the miners in the Ostfeld entered via the Aurora shaft, the miners employed in the Westfeld reached their workplaces under the Eickhoffstollen via Willibaldstollen IV.
In 1954, 611 people worked in the Ramsbeck mining district. After the inauguration of the new operating facility at the Eickhoffstollen in 1955 - today's mining museum - this became the central entry and exit point until the mine was closed in 1974. The Auroraschacht and Willibaldstollen IV were closed. Between 1840 and 1974, the miners extracted a total of around 16.7 million tons of raw ore from the Ramsbeck mining district.
