Discover the history of mining in Ramsbeck on the mining trail. The approximately 11 km long route was created between 2010 and 2017 and vividly conveys the development of ore mining, processing and smelting.
41 stations with information boards provide you with interesting facts about historic buildings, tunnels, technical facilities and preserved relics. The trail starts at the mining museum and can be hiked in four sections, all of which lead through the center of Ramsbeck. Seating along the way invites you to take a break and
sturdy footwear is recommended. We wish you lots of fun and exciting insights into Ramsbeck's mining history!
The hiking trail starts at the mining museum and covers a total distance of approx. 10 km. Numerous benches and tables invite you to take a break. You can also walk three sections (see map). All routes lead through the center of Ramsbeck. There are two sections of the route in the Werden area. The trail near the Halden processing plant (Willibald) can only be officially marked later. The reason for this is that work is still being carried out by the former mine operator.
We hope you have fun, enjoy yourself and gain new insights into mining in general and the past in Ramsbeck in particular.
Guided hike on the mining trail
The starting point of the hike is directly opposite the museum. From there, follow the "Berbauwanderweg" signs. The trail is very well marked.
Good footwear is recommended, as the path leads over spoil tips in places. Unfortunately, the Förderverein and the landowners cannot accept liability of any kind.
Icing possible in winter. The country road (Bestwig - Fredeburg) is crossed in two places. Short sections are relatively steep. A rescue point system has been installed in the Hochsauerland district. Rescue points can be found on the information boards at junctions and hiking signs.
A visit to the Sauerland visitor mine before or after the hike is highly recommended.
