The Sauerland’s calendar of events is just as diverse as its landscape. The region offers year-round highlights that captivate visitors from near and far. Cycling enthusiasts, for example, will find plenty to enjoy at the Shimano Bike Festival in Willingen or the Sauerland Tour. Starting in the summer, it’s time for the big fair events, which culminate in November with the traditional All Saints’ Day Fair in Soest.

Equestrian sports also have their place on the Sauerland event calendar. With the Longines Balve Optimum and the Vosswinkel Riding Days, the region is well-known among equestrian enthusiasts from all over Germany and even Europe.

It gets truly impressive every other fall when countless hot-air balloons rise spectacularly into the sky at the Warsteiner International Montgolfiade in Werden. And the region also shines in the winter with top-class events. That’s when the world’s best luge, skeleton, and bobsled athletes compete for the best times in the ice track at the Veltins-EisArena, while the World Cup at the Mühlenkopfschanze in Willingen features jumps of up to 150 meters.

And those are just the major highlights on the calendar. Countless small cultural events, traditional regional festivals, and athletic competitions breathe new life into the Sauerland year after year, showcasing just how vibrant the region is.
