Welver - Kult(o)ur

The northern half of the route, which is approximately 30 km long, is designated as the “Kult(o)ur” Route. Along the way, visitors can admire the municipality’s historic cultural treasures and architectural landmarks.

But nature also plays a prominent role on this loop. With a little luck, you can spot birds from the Ahsewiesen observation hut just before Hachenei. The Ahsewiesen is an extensive wetland meadow area where curlews, lapwings, marsh harriers, shovelers, teals, and gadwalls, white storks, meadow pipits, and red-backed shrikes breed. Migratory birds such as bean geese, white-fronted geese, cranes, green sandpipers, and redshanks can be spotted here.

The route begins in the historic monastery village of Kirchwelver. Passing the two churches, the former monastery building, and the Heimathaus, the route continues through the forest to Dorfwelver. Here you’ll pass the grounds of the former “Haus Matena.” Shortly before Dinker, you’ll cross the Ahse River, where you’ll find a beautiful viewpoint overlooking the renaturalized Ahsewiesen. Further on, the route passes St. Othmar Church. Here, in the garden of the rectory, lies another former knight’s residence. A 16th-century wheel-shaped building has been preserved there, standing on an artificially created island.
The first place to stop for refreshments is in Dinker on Hellweg at “Anges Gasthaus Witteborg.” The route continues to Eilmsen-Vellinghausen. Here, Vellinghausen Castle and the monument commemorating the “Battle of Vellinghausen” are located near the route.
The route continues to Nateln. Between Nateln and Hacheney, there’s a wonderful view of the moated castle “Haus Nehlen.” The return trip goes via Borgeln, Fahnen, and Recklingsen back to Welver.
