Meyerich House

Historic Site | Body of Water

#deinsauerland / Neusta POIs / Meyerich House
Here are two islands surrounded by moats. The entire structure is shaped like an 8 and is a man-made complex on which a so-called "motte"—or lowland castle—once stood during the Middle Ages.

Today, the "Lange Peitsche" fishing club leases the body of water and the islands. The entire area is operated as a fishing pond.
Around the year 1450, Welver’s most famous son, “Wolter von Plettenberg,” was born there. He joined the Teutonic Order and served as Grand Master of the Order in Livonia for nearly 50 years.

Today, the Meyerich House, a 19th-century manor, stands right next door.
