Winterberg-Hoheleye, "Girkhäuser Straße" stop
Bad Berleburg train station
This hiking tip on the Rothaarsteig and Forest Sculpture Trail starts at the train station in Bad Berleburg. Take the R28 bus from Bad Berleburg station in the direction of Winterberg to Winterberg-Hoheleye (bus stop Girkhäuser Straße). The R28 bus sometimes runs as an on-call bus at weekends (TaxiBus; Tel.0800-3504045, registration up to 45 minutes before departure between 8 am and 8 pm).
From the bus stop on the main road, it is only a few meters uphill to the Hoheleyer Hütte, where you meet the Rothaarsteig. The hike back to Bad Berleburg via the Rothaarsteig and the forest sculpture trail begins here.
The Rothaarsteig leads past the "Alter Ahorn" over the Albrechtsberg to the Heidenstock. At the junction of the Rothaarsteig variants, you stay on the ridge of the Rothaargebirge and soon reach the Wittgenstein-Sauerland Forest Sculpture Trail, which runs parallel to the Rothaarsteig for a while from here. Past the sculpture "Kein leichtes Spiel" (No easy game) and past the hamlet of Kühhude, both paths lead to the sculpture "Stein, Zeit, Mensch" (Stone, Time, Man). If you would like to explore life in the treetops at lofty heights, take a detour to the nearby suspension bridge, which is located slightly away from the sculpture.
Back at the "Stein, Zeit, Mensch" sculpture, you leave the Rothaarsteig and the hike continues along the WaldSkulpturenWeg to Bad Berleburg. Nature and art are combined here. Follow the signs for the WaldSkulpturenWeg, which is also the yellow signposted Rothaarsteig access route to Bad Berleburg, past the "Falken", the "Grünhaus" and the "Goldenen Ei" to the train station in Bad Berleburg.

Hiking rucksack
With a suitable hiking rucksack, your tour on the Rothaarsteig is twice as much fun! Thanks to their ventilated carrying system, hiking rucksacks are very comfortable to wear, as this ensures that sweat can evaporate immediately. They can be fastened with a waist or hip belt and thus sit firmly on your back with every movement. They are also equipped with a practical holder for hiking poles and often have a compartment with a tube outlet for a hydration bladder, so that hydration is ensured at all times.
First aid kit
To ensure that you can enjoy your hiking tour on the Rothaarsteig without restrictions, you should always carry a first aid kit in your rucksack. After all, nothing is more annoying than not being able to immediately treat a blister on your foot or minor injuries properly. Tatonka's first aid kits are filled with all the important materials for the initial treatment of injuries and also contain an "outdoor cheat sheet" with a concise and clear guideline for the correct behaviour in the event of emergencies in the great outdoors. You can find Tatonka's first aid kits here!
Food and drink
On some stages, especially between Lahnhof and Dillenburg, there are unfortunately no refreshment stops along the way. Remember to pack food and drink, especially here. Especially in summer, it is important to stay hydrated.
The stainless steel bottles, stainless steel insulated jugs and stainless steel lunch boxes from the German outdoor equipment manufacturer Tatonka are not only practical, but also unbreakable and durable.
? In an emergency, things have to move quickly! That's why the Rothaarsteig is equipped with so-called rescue signs throughout. The green and white plaques attached to the posts of the signposts have a number that you must give when making an emergency call. This way, the emergency services know exactly where you are and valuable time can be saved.
Note on the increased risk of forest fires
