Hiking experiences along the Sauerland border
Located on the main ridge of the Rothaargebirge, the "Albrechtsplatz" hiking parking lot is a good starting point for hiking and cross-country skiing tours along the Rothaarsteig, towards the Sauerland (e.g. Langewiese) and for the Steinert-Girkhausen cross-country skiing area. The A 3 (5.3 km) is the start of a beautiful panoramic circular tour that first takes you along the Rothaarsteig to Albrechtsberg, the second-highest mountain in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district. You can then take a short detour to the "Friedensquelle" rest area. There you will find good conditions for a long break. Refreshed, the route continues along the Bremberg back to the parking lot. From here, you can also join the Wittgensteiner Panoramaweg or a stage of the Rothaarsteig .
Another hiking option is the A 4 circular trail (9.5 km): this runs via a Rothaarsteig feeder trail to the Steinert ski hut and then to the outskirts of Girkhausen. Here you can also take a detour to the "Steinert" eye stone , which offers a new view of the Girkhausen Protestant church. The trail continues through the beautiful Hesselbach valley to Hoheleye. Here it is worth stopping for a bite to eat in the local restaurant. Via the Rothaarsteig, the route follows the Rothaar ridge back to the hiking parking lot. The path is very varied (slope, valley, altitude) and always offers beautiful views.
In winter, not only is it possible to access numerous cross-country ski trails from the hiking parking lot in the direction of Girkhausen, the Albrechtsplatz is also the starting point of the Rothaar cross-country ski trail. This runs along the well-known Rothaarsteig long-distance hiking trail between Albrechtsplatz and Kühhude.
