Gradierwerk I was built in 1835 and used for salt extraction until 1949. Today it is used for healthy open-air inhalation and has been listed as a technical monument by the town of Erwitte since 1984. At
120 meters long,
12.5 meters high and with a
grading area of 2,400 m², it is the largest spa park Gradierwerk in North Rhine-Westphalia.
The way it works is both traditional and fascinating: brine flows from the source via pipes to the Pumpenhaus and is pumped from there into the water channels on the Gradierwerk. From above, it trickles over the dense blackthorn brushwood walls. As it trickles down, some of the water evaporates, creating fine salt aerosols that enrich the air with soothing freshness.
The scent of salt, the gentle trickling and the clear, mineral-rich air create an atmosphere that is immediately reminiscent of the sea. Here it is easy to breathe freely, relieve the respiratory tract and relax body and mind.
