Bredelar Abbey has shaped the town for around 850 years. First it was a convent for nuns, then for monks. This was followed by an ironworks and many different industrial uses. Today, a socio-cultural meeting center is housed in part of the buildings, where many private and public events take place. The Sauerland Art Space also delights visitors with changing exhibitions. The monastery is also home to the branch offices of the registry office and the adult education center as well as a small museum. During a guided tour, you can learn exciting things about the building, the conversions and extensions, monastery life, the industrial era and its current use.
Public guided tours take place every first Sunday of the month. A donation of €3.00 is requested. Registration is not required; the meeting point is the large parking lot at Sauerlandstraße 86.
