After a two-year break due to the coronavirus, it's "Welcome to the Sauerland" again on Saturday and Sunday, February 18 and 19, at the Fiets- en Wandelbeurs in Ghent. That's when Sauerland Tourism will be represented with a stand at Belgium's largest cycling and walking fair, which attracts a good 15,000 visitors. Also on board: lots of information material about "Germany's most inspiring outdoor region".
"The Fiets- en Wandelbeurs is perfect for marketing us as a vacation region close to nature with offers related to hiking and cycling," explains Robin Daniel, marketing employee at Sauerland Tourism. The wide range of offers from travel providers and equipment manufacturers to tourist destinations is what makes the trade fair so appealing. "As a visitor, you get the all-round carefree package here and can be wonderfully inspired," continues Daniel. Various other highlights such as lectures, workshops and a photo competition make the major event in Belgium a popular meeting place for cyclists, hikers and outdoor fans.
This year, Germany is also the theme country of the trade fair, with a special focus on the nearby destinations in North Rhine-Westphalia. In this context, the tourism association, in cooperation with the German National Tourist Board (GNTB), will also be giving a presentation highlighting the advantages of the region. A look at guest arrivals and overnight stays for 2022 also shows how important the Dutch and Belgian markets are for the Sauerland, with the two neighboring countries being by far the most important foreign target groups.
