Some members of the village community of Velmede-Bestwig made the plan more than 10 years ago to open the Veleda-Höhle for groups of visitors. What seemed impossible at first was completed with the approval for the opening thanks to the support of authorities and many caving enthusiasts from Südwestfalen.
In 2014, with financial support from the Leader project "Four in the middle of Sauerland" and with funds from the municipality of Bestwig, footbridges and stairs were installed in the Veleda-Höhle. The village community of Velmede-Bestwig has taken on the task of illustrating the special features in the cave and the legends and stories surrounding the cave to those interested.
In the summer half-year public guided tours through the Velede cave take place regularly. Individual appointments are possible.
