The second, eastern city gate was located in the Upper Gate, roughly as an extension of the main street. It closed off the ring of walls that surrounded the town to the west, north and east. The moat ran along today's Hagenstraße, which was once only built on the city side, up to the Lower Gate with a marshy foreland. The moat and marsh replaced the wall on the south side of the town. The Spritzenhaus in the Upper Gate also served as the town prison for a time.
