The spa park in Bad Westernkotten
Recreation and experience
The spa park in the brine & mud spa invites you to take long walks and enjoy nature. It presents itself in every season in a different charming dress.
Shade-giving groups of trees, striking individual trees, extensive green areas and colorful flower plantings at selected locations characterize the well-kept park.
Comfortable park benches invite you to linger, for example at the Gradierwerk, at the fountain in front of the spa hall or at the fountain. Another fountain marks the transition from the spa park to the Hellweg brine baths on the spa promenade.
Discover many small islands of tranquility, numerous interesting sculptures or even a colorful knitted ash tree, an urban knitting activity worth seeing.
Places to stay & activities:
At the two large historic Gradierwerks in the spa park, you can breathe salty air - similar to the sea. The brine trickles along the blackthorn riser walls. This creates healthy aerosols for open-air inhalation.
The Gradierwerk I was completed in 1845. Today it is the longest Kurpark Gradierwerk in NRW. It is 120 meters long and 12.25 meters high. The grading area is about 2,400 m². It runs exactly from north to south. It was used for salt production until 1949.
Gradierwerk II was built in 1932 and is 58 meters long and 13 meters high. The grading area is about 1,200 m². It runs from northwest to southeast.
Both Gradierwerks were included in the list of monuments of the town of Erwitte with effect from 18.12.1984. They are to be regarded as cultural-historical or technical monuments and belong to the largest technical monuments of their kind in North Rhine-Westphalia.
The large walk-in herb spiral at Gradierwerk II entices visitors to feel nature in its purest form and enchants the senses. Numerous herbs are briefly presented on small signs. There are six thematic areas: salt-tolerant coastal plants, mints, native wild herbs (known as "weeds"), classic kitchen herbs, perennials that can be used as "wild vegetables" and Mediterranean fragrant herbs.
The Kneipp facility in the spa park, with foot and hand basins, is filled with Bad Westernkotten brine water. Information about "Kneipp" can be found at the facility!
Three Nordic-Walking routes of varying degrees of difficulty start in the spa park.
Information about the routes and this popular sport can be found on the sign at the spa park entrance.
