From Züschen via the "Sellerberg" and the "Franzosenkreuz" to Winterberg

From the tourist information in Züschen we first walk along the Nuhnetalstraße in the direction of Hallenberg and after about 800 m we meet the Robert-Kolb-Weg of the Sauerländische Gebirgsverein (SGV) marked with X 6. At the end of the village it leads us to the left, slightly uphill, to the refuge "Sellerberg". From the refuge, we follow the so-called "Alte Landstraße" (old country road) uphill to the left, the "Sauerland Weg" (Sauerland way) leading from Frankfurt to Soest in the Middle Ages. The white squares lead us over "Schling" (old roadblock), Kleiner and Großer Niggenberg to the Franzosenkreuz. A French officer is said to have been killed here by his lad. Opposite the refuge we find a Schnadestein, which was erected by the Heimat- und Geschichtsverein Winterberg together with the Schützenverein. It marks the border of the core town and the villages of Züschen and Hesborn. A little later we cross an earthen wall about 1.5 m high, the remains of the medieval Landwehr of the town of Winterberg. From here it is not far to the "Hesborn Weg", which we reach at a large signpost. Following the white dot, we turn left in the direction of Winterberg and go up to the "Kreuzberg", with a view of the Altstadt of Winterberg. One kilometer further on we have reached the Untere Pforte.
Return: From Winterberg it is possible to use the public transport. With the Sauerland Card we return to Züschen free of charge. Spry hikers can also hike down to Züschen on the old "Günninghauser Straße" (marking: green W 4), past the "Daubermühle" (approx. 7 km).
