The construction of the ramp was part of the Möhneaue Life Project with the aim of bringing nature back into the river course. The fish ladder enables ecological passability, allowing fish and other small organisms to pass through the upper part of the river as well. The project quickly had an impact and fish can now be spotted in the upper reaches as well. For the construction of the fish ladder, which meets the requirements of the European Water Framework Directive, a total of 3,000 tons of stones were used along a total length of 120 meters in the Möhne.
