Joachim Knorra conjures up sparkling works of art of timeless fascination. They are only perishable under the influence of sun and heat. The ice-cold beauties are well protected in what is probably Germany's smallest ice museum. Until the 1960s, the Hallenberg ice house was used to store ice, which was extracted from local streams in the winter months and used to cool drinks at festivals and in restaurants in the summer.
On every 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month in the time from 15:00-17:00 the door of the ice house is open for interested visitors. Ice artist Joachim Knorra, who made the various ice sculptures, will also be present on these dates to explain everything and answer further questions about ice.
On request, smaller groups can also make an appointment to see the ice sculptures outside opening hours by calling the Tourist Information Office in Hallenberg on 02984-8203 or Joachim Knorra on 02984-2415. If you would like to try your hand at ice carving, you can also book an ice carving seminar by calling the above telephone numbers.
We would be pleased to welcome you soon in the Hallenberg ice house.
