House Festes

Half-timbered house

Haus Festes

Address

House Festes

Hellenstraße 24

59955 Winterberg

A state half-timbered gable house made of a strong ancient half-timbered framework and an added deel gate and sparse ornaments is the house "Festes". The gable of the crippled hipped roof is in Sauerland slate, the side walls are partially covered with artificial slate. The original Ackerbürgerhaus was rebuilt after the first town fire in 1759 and survived the great fire of 1791. It is therefore one of the oldest houses in Winterberg.

As the carvings show, wall slating was not common at that time. Around 1990 it was renovated and is registered in the list of monuments of the town.

The inscription on the threshold of the upper floor reads:

O GOD OUR SAVIOR CONVERT US AND TURN YOUR WRATH AWAY FROM US PS 37 AN ON YOU O HER HAVE I GEHOFD DU MEIN HAR UND GOT WILL MICH ERHÖREN

The inscription above the entrance door reads:

OVAM DONUS THE Q.VAE VID IN VENIENTIRUS PAXINTRATNIS

BY JODOCUS VIENNA THIS HOUSE IS BUILT FOR THE SECOND TIME

1759

(translated from the erroneous Latin mutatis mutandis: Joy to this house and to all we see arriving - peace to those entering).
