Awakened to new life

The "Little Storehouse", a four by five and a half meter small half-timbered house, was probably originally a storehouse.

Behind the fruit barn and the saw gate on the other side of the Westergraben, it was falling into disrepair. The dilapidated condition of the approximately 180-year-old building was a "thorn in the eye" of many. Due to the penetrated moisture, the truss stems had rotted off and the "Little Storehouse" was leaning 28 cm out of plumb towards the millrace.

So a possible restoration of the building became the subject of a thesis in 2013 - with the aim of preserving it. The Lower Monument Authority and the town of Warstein as owner were informed and those involved quickly agreed that the "Kleiner Speicher" was worthy of restoration.

Visiting the small granary

The groups of the "Belecke Night Watchmen's Guild" and the "Belecke Storm Day Cannoneers", which are affiliated with the Kultur- und Heimatverein, performed 2500 volunteer hours, starting with the first meeting in October 2015 until the inauguration in May 2018.

For the lower floor in the "Kleiner Speicher" night watchmen and Sturmtagskanoniere designed a permanent historical exhibition. On the second floor is the meeting room of the two groups.
