With almost 95,000 inhabitants, Iserlohn is the largest and oldest town in the Märkischer Kreis.

The history of the town goes back to the 10th century.
The first written record is dated 1150. In 1278, Iserlohn's town charter was confirmed by Count Eberhard von der Mark. In the 18th century Iserlohn was the center of the bronze and brass industry. Until the middle of the 19th century, it was the largest city in Westfalen.

Iserlohn is also known as the "forest city" because of the numerous forests that surround the city. It offers excellent quality of life and recreational opportunities.
