It already has a strange name: Balve Forest. Is it a forest or a mountain? Both! The forest is named after the city of Balve and at the same time the largest part of it lies on Hemeran city territory. Its highest elevation has received the same name for the sake of simplicity.
With 546m the "Balver Wald" is also the highest elevation of the Iserlohn Heights in the northern Märkischer Kreis. And of course you can climb it. Less than 5 km from the center of Balve you can climb the hill and enjoy the romantic landscape of the Hönnetal. There are 274 meters of altitude to overcome, but thanks to well-developed hiking trails you can do it even with only medium physical condition. South of the ascent there is also a refuge. But in general: in strong wind or rain or a few days later, the forest should be avoided because of the danger of falling branches.
The 17 km long circular trail around the Balve forest is a bit more demanding.
