In 1824, innkeeper Franz Kramer started producing beer commercially in a small country brewery in Grevenstein in accordance with the German Purity Law. Over the years, he also sold this to other innkeepers in the area. In 1852, the inn and brewery were taken over by Clemens Veltins (1822-1905) from Hellefeld. Over 200 years later, one of the most modern private breweries in Europe can be found here: the C. & A. VELTINS brewery.
The company has now been run by the Veltins family for five generations. To this day, Veltins beer is brewed exclusively from high-quality ingredients - malt, hops, yeast and the purest spring water - strictly in accordance with the Purity Law of 1516. The water, which springs from the mountains around Grevenstein, is exceptionally soft. This has been a key reason for VELTINS to brew beer exclusively in the Pilsen style for many decades since 1926: VELTINS Premium Pilsener. Susanne Veltins has been continuing the successful history of the C. & A. VELTINS brewery since 1994. Since 2001, mixed beer drinks have also been produced in addition to pilsner.
Today, the Veltins product range includes the classic Pilsener (with and without alcohol), Helles Lager beer, Grevensteiner, a dark country beer and Pülleken, a light beer, as well as the mixed drinks Radler and V+ and non-alcoholic drinks such as Fassbrause, Radler Alkoholfrei and Remix-Limonade.
When the Football World Cup was held in Germany in 2006, Veltins achieved a historic output record of 2.63 million hectoliters. The beer-mixed drink products contributed 423,000 hectolitres to the total output.
But the development continued: in 2025, the Veltins brewery was the ninth largest German brewery in terms of annual beer output (sales in hectolitres). Veltins produced around 3.5 million hectolitres this year.
The company premises are not freely accessible.
