Originally, the Catholics from Helminghausen had to walk four kilometers to Beringhausen to attend Mass. That is why the residents of Helminghausen had long wanted their own chapel. In 1905, the villagers founded a chapel-building association with the goal of erecting a place of worship through voluntary donations; the cornerstone was laid in 1906, and a year later the chapel was consecrated to Saint Mark.
Following renovations in the postwar years, the term “chapel” gradually evolved into “church,” and “Mary of Perpetual Help” is now its patron saint.
