St. George's Church, which is located on a small hill on the outskirts of Schweinsbühl, was named after the holy knight George and a St. George's farm near Schweinsbühl. The Romanesque church, in particular the dome above the chancel, is considered an architectural masterpiece by experts. The church appears in many (art) travel guides and is considered a cultural and historical monument worth preserving. The church was last renovated in 2004 at a cost of 273,000 euros. In particular, the roof truss and the interior were repaired.

The monks from nearby Flechtdorf moved their monastery parish to the Schweinsbühl heights around 1200, as this is where the court square (Freistuhl) was located. This made the village the center of the Rhene-Diemel area. Around 1540, St. George's Church became a Protestant parish church, although the monastery remained Catholic. The Counts of Waldeck, the Lords of Dalwigk, Padberg and Rhena alternately held the patronage over the court and parish. This provided them with ample income.

18 priests have served in today's Diemelsee district since the Reformation. Although the independent parish was preserved, the parish post has been vacant since 1797. Since then, clergymen from Flechtdorf, Rhena and Eimelrod have preached for the people of Schweinsbühl.

Today, Schweinsbühl belongs to the parish of Rhena-Eimelrod, which is presided over by Pastor Kai-Uwe Schröter. Sexton Waldtraut Wilke has looked after the little gem with great dedication for more than 50 years. The church has been open to everyone during the day for almost as long. The church is an indispensable architectural landmark in Schweinsbühl.
