A few minutes' walk north of the Ebbemoore Knüppeldamm, which leads visitors on dry feet through the protected flora and fauna of the Ebbemoore, is the historic Markenbaum. It is located on the adjacent south slope path below Nordhelle and can be easily integrated into a hike.
The striking copper beech served as a boundary tree for centuries and once marked the border of the Herscheid Mark. Such marker trees had an important function in the historical use of the landscape and are now rare witnesses to regional legal and cultural history.
Due to its location close to popular hiking trails, the Markenbaum combines the experience of nature with historical background knowledge and invites you to pause for a moment and sharpen your eye for the special features of the cultural landscape.
