In cooperation with the 100th anniversary of the Landesgemeinschaft der Krippenfreunde in Rheinland und Westfalen e. V., the Holthausen Slate Mining and Local History Museum is presenting an exhibition of nativity scenes with a focus on "miners' nativity scenes". These special Christmas representations from the Ruhrgebiet and Erzgebirge mining regions depict the birth of Christ in a mine tunnel or in an Erzgebirge mine cave, the building at the entrance to the mine.
The presentation of the mining nativity scenes is embedded in a wide-ranging selection of international nativity scenes and artists' nativity scenes from the Bernhard Alshut collection. The nativity scene show was organized, curated and set up by the nativity scene friend Ulrich Ostermann from Menden-Lürbke, with the support of Matthias Holbeck from Niederense.
Exhibition duration: November 07, 2025 to February 01, 2026
