Special first aid course "Helping knows no age or handicap"
Courage to help - because your experience counts!
On Sunday, June 22, 2025, we, Malteser Lippstadt, invite you to a compact first aid course especially for older people and people with disabilities for the first time. In four 45-minute sessions with extensive breaks in between (14:00-18:00), we will show you how you can be decisive in an emergency situation without using your strength or body.
Why this course is different
No physical effort or action required.
All techniques are designed to be performed with brains and dexterity - not brawn.
For anyone who thought helping was beyond their capabilities
Age, walking difficulties, limitations? Here you will learn that your experience and organizational skills are worth their weight in gold.
Practice-oriented instruction
You will not only practise yourself, but above all how to instruct others: from arranging the helpers to making the emergency call.
What you can expect on the course
Recognize an emergency and act correctly
- Discover alarm signs: Loss of consciousness, life-threatening bleeding
- Your role as coordinator: Keep calm, call the emergency services (112), give clear instructions
- Guidance instead of doing it yourself: Guide others safely through chest compressions and artificial respiration
- Assist with the implementation of a lateral position
- Shock position: Recognizing and what to do in the event of circulatory problems
- Basics: gauze bandages, sterile compresses, fixation bandages
- Applying a pressure bandage without exerting force - stopping bleeding step by step
- Practical hacks: bandages on the upper arm, leg or head
Understanding life-saving techniques
- Heimlich maneuvers to eliminate choking
- Rautek rescue grip: leaving the danger zone
Recognizing and correctly assessing hazards
- Common emergencies: from falling accidents to circulatory collapse
- Risk assessment: when to wait, when to act immediately
Instructing and coordinating
- How to structure and motivate helpers
- Checklist mindset: emergency call, material, situation report
Who can take part?
Anyone who wants to expand their basic knowledge of first aid - and always thought this was not possible due to age or disability. We will show you how you can save lives within your capabilities.
