Klaus Maria Brandauer will be performing the furious monologue he spoke at Vienna's Burgtheater on his 80th birthday, which also marked his 50th anniversary as an actor at the Burgtheater. "Minetti" by Thomas Bernhard revolves around the loneliness that spreads around an aged and embittered actor who, as a kind of modern King Lear, is surrounded by an increasingly uncomprehending and hostile society. But in typical Bernhardian paradox, the voice of the all-powerful artist of language rises to its final heights in his failure.
