For the third time, a canonized classic is being tackled, and once again the
result is astonishing. We're already tired of it - for decades, the classics
have been broken, overwritten, alienated, updated, whatever, by the director's theater. In the end, respect for the work often falls by the wayside. The German-Turkish actor Haydar Zorlu, however, achieves the almost unbelievable - he dissects the text, takes on all the roles, improvises, reduces and alienates, and yet no audience member doubts the meaning and seriousness of this Faustian kaleidoscope. Zorlu has presented his "Faust-Solo" over eight hundred times worldwide, no two performances have ever been the same, and we can also look forward to improvisational surprises and spontaneous players in Lippstadt.
