The geopark and nature park not only preserves geological and historical treasures, but also combines education and geotourism with regional development. An exciting example of this is the new exhibition in the Geo-Infostube "Im Ohl", which will be on display from May 1, 2025.
Immerse yourself in the history of Waldeck's Upland and discover fascinating finds that prove the early settlement of the region 2600 years ago. Particularly impressive are the results of the archaeological excavations in Schwalefeld, which provided the first evidence of a Celtic settlement in the Hallstatt period (800-600 BC).
In addition to Schwalefeld, places such as Neerdar, Schweinsbühl, Feld Ittlar, Welleringhausen, Eimelrod, Hemmighausen, Deisfeld and Rattlar also show traces from this period. The exhibition provides exciting insights into the way of life of the early settlers and presents new research findings from the supplementary volume to the Usseln Ortssippenbuch.
Opening times:
The exhibition is open from May to September 2025 on every 1st Saturday of the month from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm or by appointment.
Don't miss out on this journey into the past and discover the hidden treasures of the Celtic period in Waldeck's Upland!
