As a young girl, piano prodigy Clara Wieck falls in love with Robert Schumann, who is ten years her senior. They fight for their love, marry against the will of the bride's father, two music maniacs who want to support and fertilize each other in their togetherness. A dream couple then? Despite their sincere love, everyday life after the wedding is complicated, however, as the marriage and Robert's progressive mental illness increasingly restrict Clara. And then there is Johannes Brahms. Little by little, she begins to free herself and assert her interests with skill and cleverness, eventually becoming one of the best pianists of the 19th century and supporting her family with her earnings. A life that completely "dislocated" the social conventions of the time.
This awakening of a self-confident 19th century artist is reflected in the couple's letters, texts from their marriage diary and contemporary commentaries, presented as a staged reading with music. Bianca Lammert and Hans-Peter Krüger take on the roles of Clara and Robert Schumann. The KunstFestEnsemble of the Ruhrstadt Orchester under the direction of Claus Eickhoff will play selected chamber music works by Clara and Robert Schumann and Johannes Brahms with piano and string quartet. An evening between supreme happiness and abysmal despair!
