Towards the end of the 19th century, the Italian nun Francesca Cabrini (Cristiana Dell'Anna) is sent to New York as the personal envoy of Pope Leo XIII (Giancarlo Giannini). There, at the gateway to the new world for people from all over the world, she is to look after orphans from immigrant families. Because they have no one. But Francesca is not exactly well received in New York. As a woman, she doesn't get much of a hearing there. Not only that, but her plans are actively opposed - simply because the powerful men cannot tolerate a woman taking matters into her own hands, which could end up making her look bad (USA 2023, biopic/drama, 145 minutes, FSK 12).
