10 Years of Kinozeit - Film: Stiller
“How are you supposed to prove that you’re not someone?” While
traveling by train through Switzerland,
American Larkin White (Albrecht Schuch) is arrested at the border. The accusation: He is the sculptor Anatol Stiller, who disappeared seven years ago and is wanted for his involvement in a dubious political scandal. White denies the charges and insists he is not Stiller.
To prove her guilt, the district attorney asks Stiller’s wife, Julika (Paula Beer), for help. But even she is unable to identify him with certainty. The district attorney, too, has a surprising connection to the missing man. What exactly happened back then, and who is Stiller really?
Max Frisch’s literary classic *Stiller* was published in 1954 by Suhrkamp Verlag; to date, it has sold millions of copies, been translated into 34 languages, and received prestigious awards.
