The Sauerland - located in the southeast of NRW - inspires with its colorful diversity. In spring the fresh green of the meadows shines, in summer the gold of the fields glitters. In autumn the forests turn colorful, in winter the peaks are powdered white. And at any time of the year, the region has plenty of excursion tips to offer you - in the fresh air and also "under roof".
In the warm season, the five large reservoirs - the Sauerland-Seen - attract people from the neighborhood, but also from other parts of NRW to visit. Here you can go swimming, enjoy the sun in the lidos or even take a ride on one of the passenger boats across the water. Or you can take it sporty and go surfing, sailing, diving or stand-up paddling. No wonder they are considered top destinations for excursions.
You can also have a lot of fun in the adventure pools and amusement parks. Get up close to the local animals in one of the wildlife parks or on a ranger tour through nature. Do you like shopping? There are many stores waiting for you in the pretty towns, and you can find bargains in the outlets of the local brand manufacturers - the Sauerland has a lot of them.
The many museums and technical monuments offer even more indoor experiences and a lot of interesting facts - the cultural and industrial history of the Sauerland comes alive here, because almost everywhere there is something to participate in and experience.
As I said, an excursion is worthwhile at any time of the year: In winter, you can admire the dormant nature during a walk, and then stop at one of the cozy cafes or restaurants and treat yourself to a warm drink.
The caves in the Sauerland are also a special feature. Several dripstone caves are waiting to be explored by you - this is a fine insider tip, especially in bad weather. And if you are fascinated by the underground treasures of the region, then take a look at one of the visitor mines or galleries.
