Das Sauerland jagt die Million

The Black Forest has already made it, and the Harz and the Eifel are now also part of the illustrious circle. We are talking about tourism regions that have reached the magic number of one million used hashtags with their region name on the increasingly popular social media platform Instagram. It is an absolute absurdity that the "Land of a Thousand Mountains" is still missing and that the hashtag #sauerland currently has "only" 960,938 Posts.

After all, the Sauerland is not only the strongest region in North Rhine-Westphalia in terms of overnight stays, but is also one of the most popular low mountain regions in Germany and attracts holidaymakers and day trippers all year round."With our campaign, we would like to actively call on all Sauerland fans, enthusiasts but above all the local population to present their facets of our Sauerland on Instagram at the start of the hiking and cycling season," says Rouven Soyka, press spokesman for Sauerland Tourism, explaining the intention behind the project. "After all, with an area of over 5,000 square kilometers, the Sauerland has a variety of highlights to offer like hardly any other region in North Rhine-Westphalia and Germany."

The concept is very simple. All you have to do is upload a photo to Instagram under the hashtag #sauerland and you're already supporting the tourism association's dream of cracking the million mark. "We are sure that with the enormous support from the region we will hopefully quickly reach our goal and are already excited about what great motifs the social media users will contribute," adds Dr. Jürgen Fischbach, Managing Director at Sauerland Tourism.
