Young players shape the future of tourism

Tourism Barcamp Sauerland inspires with open exchange

The tourism industry in the Sauerland remains dynamic, diverse and future-oriented - this was impressively demonstrated by the fourth edition of the Sauerland Tourism Barcamp. A good 40 junior staff, students and young professionals came together on Tuesday at the Südwestfalen University of Applied Sciences in Meschede to network, discuss and learn from each other in an open atmosphere.

Right at the beginning, a keynote speech by Tourismus NRW provided a strong impetus. The presentation highlighted current trends, challenges and opportunities in tourism in North Rhine-Westphalia and provided numerous starting points for further discussions throughout the day. "The Tourism Barcamp thrives on participation, creativity and the will to make a difference together," emphasizes Rouven Soyka, press spokesman for Sauerland Tourism. "Young people in particular bring important perspectives and fresh ideas to the table - this is evident at this event every year," adds Nele Hesse, a trainee at the tourism association.

As is usual with barcamps, the content of the day was not predetermined, but rather designed by the participants themselves. In a total of eight sessions, attendees discussed topics such as artificial intelligence in tourism, employer branding, sustainable destination development and cooperation between municipalities. The 45-minute workshop rounds provided space for lively discussions, critical questions and solution-oriented dialog. "The mix of new faces and familiar participants was particularly pleasing," says Stephan Britten, Industry Team Leader and Tourism Officer at IHK Arnsberg. "This shows how well received the format is - and how great the desire for professional exchange is."

The Tourism Barcamp was organized by Sauerland-Tourismus, the Arnsberg Hellweg-Sauerland Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the Siegen Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the SIHK zu Hagen and the Südwestfalen University of Applied Sciences. The Veltins brewery once again supported the event as a partner with refreshing drinks, contributing to the open and relaxed exchange. The fourth edition of the Tourism Barcamp makes it clear: the next generation of tourism professionals in the Sauerland is committed, well networked and ready to actively shape the future of the industry.
