The MöhnetalRadweg is one of the most popular cycle routes in the Sauerland - and this is now also reflected in the figures: This year, the mark of 80,000 cyclists counted was exceeded. This is confirmed by the latest evaluations of the automatic counting points along the route.

This confirms the continuing high popularity of the approximately 65-kilometre-long cycle path, which connects the Möhnetal with the source region around the historic Hanseatic town of Brilon with the Ruhrtal near Arnsberg-Neheim. The MöhnetalRadweg runs as a river cycle path along the eponymous river and therefore has hardly any gradients worth mentioning, but all the more nature and cultural experiences to offer.

Impressive highlights such as the picturesque Möhnesee with its imposing dam wall, idyllic villages such as Belecke or Kallenhardt and numerous places to stop for refreshments with a regional character await along the route. Thanks to the good connection to the RuhrtalRadweg and the national cycle path network, the tour is attractive for day trippers as well as for cycle tours lasting several days.

"The fact that the MöhnetalRadweg has cracked the 80,000 mark shows how firmly anchored touring cycling is in the Sauerland," explains Robin Daniel, marketing employee at Sauerland Tourism. "River cycle paths with low gradients are right in tune with the times. They make it possible to combine scenery and enjoyment. The Sauerland benefits from its versatility here: nature, hospitality and quality make all the difference."

Touring cycling has become a central pillar of tourism in the Sauerland in recent years, not least due to the ongoing e-bike boom. In addition to sporty offers such as mountain bike trails and gravel routes, comfortable, scenic routes such as the MöhnetalRadweg form the backbone of tourist cycling. Thanks to e-bike use, demand remains at a high level - and the trend continues to point upwards.
