From historic quarries & striking hilltops

They are the faces behind the Sauerland-Seelenorte, know their personal places like no other and take hikers on a very special journey - the storytelling mentors bring the stories of historic quarries, striking hilltops or impressive churches in the Sauerland-Wanderdorf villages back to life. Now the annual meeting at the Sauerland Tourism office in Bad Fredeburg was on the agenda to exchange ideas and discuss plans for the 2024 tourism year.

Since 2019, the 42 selected Sauerland-Seelenorte have enriched the "Quality Region Wanderbares Deutschland" and offer hikers a unique experience as a mix of hiking and time out. Come to yourself, enjoy the silence and let nature take effect on you - all of this is the focus when you set off on the trail to one of the Sauerland-Seelenorte and get involved in the extraordinary aura and charisma surrounding the places.

The special effect that the Sauerland-Seelenorte and a visit to them can have on the human psyche is currently being investigated as part of a doctoral thesis. The research project, led by Prof. Dr. Arndt Büssing, Faculty of Health at Witten/Herdecke University, is investigating how consciously reflecting on the experience at the Sauerland-Seelenorte can help to increase well-being and ensure a higher level of mindfulness and deceleration.

If you now feel like experiencing the unique mysticism of the 42 Sauerland-Seelenorte yourself, you can do so on your own as part of a short hike or book a guided tour with one of the storytelling mentors via the local tourist information offices.
