In 900 Niedermarsberg at the foot of the Eresburg (Obermarsberg) is first mentioned in a document as "Villa Horohusen". The developing settlement was called Horhusen and received the Dortmund town charter in 962. Later the name Stadtberge appeared, which was replaced by Niedermarsberg from 1872. The coat of arms of Niedermarsberg is based on the seal of the von Horhusen family from the 14th century.
Marsberg - rich in culture and history - invites you to stroll through the streets of the town and discover one highlight after another. Many monuments, more than 1000 years of history, green oases, idyllic corners of the old town and a touch of artist flair await you.
As diverse as Marsberg's history are the landmarks that reflect it. Feel like the former rulers of the Middle Ages when you take a look at Marsberg's landmarks such as the Bilsteinturm or Buttenturm. The Stiftskirche - Obermarsberg's landmark - towers mightily and loftily over the town. Make your way up and you will be rewarded with a unique view over the town and far beyond.
The region around Marsberg is a true paradise for outdoor enthusiasts and perfect for a day trip into the countryside. Embedded in a varied landscape, hikers and cyclists get their money's worth.
