Lüdenscheid
Surrounded by forests, low mountain ranges and dams, Lüdenscheid, the district capital of the Märkischer Kreis, is located in the eastern Sauerland. Here, not only the diverse nature invites you to switch off and relax, Lüdenscheid also convinces with its cultural offerings, shopping and gastronomy, and as an education and technology location.
One of the biggest attractions in Lüdenscheid is certainly the Phänomenta. The science center brings physics and technology to life with around 200 interactive experiment stations and amazes guests of all ages. The 75-meter-high tower, which houses a Foucault pendulum, has long since become a visual landmark of the town.
With more than 3,500 exhibits, the SIKU//WIKING Model World makes the hearts of all miniature and model building fans beat faster, while visitors interested in culture are at the right address in the city's museums. Here you can take a look at art after 1945 and contemporary talent, or go on a voyage of discovery through the 750-year history of the city. The regularly offered guided tours of the city are also not to be missed. Comedy and tragedy, dance and children's theater are presented by the Kulturhaus.
If you love nature and want to get some fresh air, you can take advantage of the varied hiking trails in and around Lüdenscheid. Short or long distances, flat paths or more demanding routes - everyone will find what they are looking for here. When the rainy weather of the Sauerland strikes and, of course, at other times, the Nattenberg family pool will delight water rats young and old with its modern pools, slide and sauna area. There is even more sauna choice right next door in the sauna village, where various cabins invite you to sauna and relax on an area of around 12,000 m².
Lüdenscheid is also a great place to celebrate. Special highlights are the still young Bautz Festival, the town festival and the fair on the Hohe Steinert.
