Sauerland-Waldroute by bus and train: From Sundern to Arnsberg (Westfalenbus)
Eine Quelle, die im Sommer wie im Winter warmes Wasser führt, eine sogenannte Nonnenkuhle, in der man bei totaler Stille noch das leise Säuseln von Gebeten hören kann, ein Flüsterhäuschen in Arnsberg und schöne Pfade – all das erwartet den Wanderer auf der Etappe von Sundern nach Arnsberg.

Vom Rathausplatz in Sundern aus geht es über den Kreuzweg hinauf zur Hubertushöhe durch den dichten Arnsberger Stadtwald und weiter zum Platz "Ochsenkopf". Nach Erreichen der Jägerbänke kommt man in das sogenannte Seufzertal mit der Thermalquelle, die Sommer wie Winter warmes Wasser führt.
Bevor Arnsberg erreicht wird, führt die Tour durch die sogenannte Nonnenkuhle - bei Stille lassen sich noch die Gebete und Gesänge der Nonnen hören. Kurz vor dem Ziel, der Altstadt von Arnsberg, gibt es nach einem Abstieg und Wiederaufstieg den Schlossberg von Arnsberg zu bewundern. Die Ruine und viele weitere historische Bauten malen ein eindrucksvolles Bild. Auch kulinarisch hat die Stadt einiges zu bieten, wie beispielsweise die "Braubrüder" im Herzen der Altstadt. Nach der Altstadt folgt dann der Abstieg Richtung Bahnhof von Arnsberg.
Diese Tour lässt sich mit Tour 3 auf der Waldroute schön zu einer Mehrtagestour kombinieren.

Most hiking trails run away from towns and settlements and every hiker has thought about what would happen if an emergency were to occur. How can I be found here? Where am I anyway? Can the emergency services reach me?
In an emergency, things have to happen quickly! That's why the Sauerland-Waldroute is equipped with so-called rescue signs throughout. The green and white stickers attached to the posts of the signposts have a number that you must give when making an emergency call. This means that the emergency services know exactly where you are and valuable time can be saved.

Public transit
Your destination: Sundern Town Hall, Sundern (Sauerland)
If you are coming from the north, get off at Neheim-Hüsten station. From here, take the R25 or S20 bus in the direction of Sundern.
If you are traveling from the south, your destination is Finnentrop station. From here, take bus route 335 in the direction of Sundern.
Destination Arnsberg station: There are good train connections to Dortmund/Hagen or Bestwig/Brilon/Warburg twice an hour. The R21 line runs back to Sundern (Hauptstraße stop)
How to get there
Arrival Sundern by car
From Arnhem/Netherlands, Dortmund, Münster, Kassel
- via the A44 Dortmund-Kassel to the Werl interchange, then A445 towards Arnsberg to the Hüsten/Sundern exit, via the B229 to Sundern-Hachen, continue towards Sundern city center
From Cologne and Frankfurt
- via the A4 Cologne/Olpe to the Olpe interchange
- via the A45 Frankfurt-Dortmund in the direction of Dortmund to the Olpe exit
- via Attendorn, Finnentrop, Rönkhausen to Sundern-Hagen
and then continue in the direction of Sundern city center
Arnsberg can be easily reached by car via the A46.
Parking
Parking spaces are available at Arnsberg station. There are plenty of parking spaces in Sundern at the town hall, some of which are subject to a charge.
