The starting point of the hike is Heggen train station. From here, you can take the Biggesee Express (RB 92) to Attendorn in just a few minutes every hour (including at weekends, of course). The black-marked access trail starts directly at Attendorn station and takes you through the town centre of Attendorn with its famous Atta-Höhle cave and beautiful Altstadt and up into the Ebbegebirge mountains to the hilltop village of Windhausen. Shortly before entering Windhausen, the access trail meets the main trail of the Sauerland-Höhenflug. The Sauerland-Höhenflug leads through the village, crosses the L 697 (where the bus stop is located) and climbs slightly at the end of the village. Above Windhausen, the ascent from Attendorn is rewarded with a fantastic panoramic view. At the Rehbigenholte panoramic viewpoint, a refuge and benches invite you to take a break and enjoy the wonderful view over the land of a thousand mountains. On a clear day, the view extends not only over Attendorn, Burg Schnellenberg and Hohe Bracht, but also as far as the Hunauturm and the Rothaargebirge. A large panorama board provides information about the peaks of the Sauerland. The Sauerland-Höhenflug leads along the panorama trail and through Kyrill meadows, which open up a magnificent display of flowers in the summer months, to the Vierkreuze refuge, where numerous hiking trails meet and the view extends far into the Märkischer Kreis. The hiking trail continues through beautiful forests and without any major inclines over the "Auf dem Höchsten" ridge. This is where the access path to Heggen meets the Sauerland-Höhenflug, which we leave at this point.
