After starting at the church in Helminghausen at “Am Weiher 14,” the trail passes the “Alter Gutsgarten” recreation area. Before leaving town, we turn right toward the Schützenhalle. We then enter the romantic Diemeltal and follow the river to the rest hut. The trail now climbs uphill to Kahlenberg and Lauke. There, we walk a short distance along the L800, turn back onto the hiking trail at the wayside cross, and reach the next rest hut. From there, you have a fantastic view of the ancient robber baron village of Padberg. The trail continues downhill along the Sauerland-Waldroute. At the Kirchpfad, the landscape opens up, and we’re treated to a panoramic view of the Diemel Dam and the Sauerland mountains. With the Diemelsee still in view, we hike toward Helminghausen. We return to the starting point via narrow, historic trails, passing a beautiful chapel along the way.
