Church of "Mary of Perpetual Help" in Helminghausen
The walk begins and ends at the Church of “Mary of Perpetual Help” in Helminghausen, where parking is available. Right nearby is a beautiful viewpoint overlooking the pond and the impressive dam. The Diemel Dam is the Sauerland-Seelenort of “Strength and Power.” From the lookout point, we cross the dike and the rushing Diemel River and walk along the eastern shore of the pond. The trail then leads very close to the imposing dam and the power plant, and we follow the road “Am Weiher.” The “Ehemalige Mühle” rest area is a great spot to take a break before reaching the church again. A tour of the church is well worth it, as is a visit to the nearby “Alter Gutsgarten” recreational facility.
