Wippekühl Farmhouse

Historic Site

#deinsauerland / Neusta POIs / Wippekühl Farmhouse

The farmhouse on the old Wippekühl estate has not changed significantly over the past 400 years, but it has undergone extensive restoration. Since its restoration in 1995, the “Wippekühl Farmhouse”—a cultural monument—has been under the care of the “Association for History and Local Heritage Preservation in the Municipality of Schalksmühle e.V.” and serves as a museum and event venue.

The two-story Wippekühl farmhouse was built around the year 1600 and has been listed as a historic landmark by the municipality of Schalksmühle since January 1, 1987. In 1995, the historic building underwent extensive renovation. Today, the site is used as a museum to vividly illustrate rural life in times past. Numerous tools and exhibits are on display in the outdoor areas and on both side haylofts, including, among other things, a historic grass mower with a grain conveyor and a manure pump.

On the grounds of the Wippekühl farmhouse, there is also a so-called “oat chest,” which was used in earlier years to store seeds. The original was demolished in 1965 and rebuilt in 2000 by the Association for History and Local Heritage as a faithful replica. It originally belonged to the Worth farmstead, which dates back several centuries. With an imposing oak tree in the immediate vicinity, the farmhouse also boasts an impressive natural landmark.

Since the farmhouse reopened in October 1995, it has been used as a venue for concerts organized by members of the “Friends of the Farmhouse” association. Civil wedding ceremonies have also been held here since 1998, taking advantage of the venue’s unique atmosphere.

For more information on current events, contact the municipality’s cultural office at 02355 / 84-241 or -242.

By prior appointment, visitor groups, kindergartens, and school classes can also take a guided tour of this “gems” and receive an explanation of its history.

Incidentally, the “VolmeSchatz Wald – Our Forest: Past, Present, Future” themed hiking trail also begins at the Wippekühl parking lot, not far from the farmhouse. At the starting point, an information board provides an overview of the trail’s route.
