Since 1860, Lippstadt had been developing into an industrial center. In 1905, Ernst Linhoff, co-founder of the Westfalen Union, had a magnificent Wilhelminian-style villa built. The building, an expression of the family's wealth, served as a private residence in the Altstadt for a long time. With the founding of the "Westfälische Union", the Linhoff family consolidated their good position years later as one of the most influential in Lippstadt.
