This "Old Hospital" was built in 1854 by order of the French general manager of the mining company, Marquis de Sassenay.

It was to be financed by a company health insurance fund. However, the mining crisis in 1856 led to the closure of the newly built hospital. It was subsequently used as housing for mining employees.

Wilhelmine Lübke, the wife of the former German President, was born here in 1885.
