At the time of the mining boom (1815-1850), many new tunnels were built. The small-grained ore was transported through this tunnel to the nearby Poch washing processing plant.

During the Advent season, the Ramsbecker Stollen Visitors' Association in Sauerland sets up a nativity scene in the Josephusstollen.

The tunnel is located near the Alwine refuge. The hut and the associated barbecue area can be rented from the Friends' Association.
