Oak wood and green sandstone are characteristic building materials of the Börde landscape that surrounds Bad Sassendorf. 12 oak beams and 12 crowning blocks of green Anröchte stone represent the 12 districts of the greater municipality of Bad Sassendorf.
The beams vary in height and document the topographical location of the districts from around 81 meters in the north of the municipality, in Ostinghausen, to 227 meters in Herringsen in the south. The bars vary in thickness and represent the respective size of the districts. Their position corresponds to the geographical location.
The crowning ashlars made of Anröchte green sandstone are carved in relief and show outstanding buildings in a district and typical scenes. Each district has its own coat of arms, which are also depicted, and the names of the districts are also carved.
The steles were erected to mark the 50th anniversary of the founding of the greater Bad Sassendorf municipality (1969). The steles on the central Jahnplatz square make the municipality tangible and invite visitors to explore the municipal area. The oak wood is also a reminder of the Jahnplatz oak tree, which characterized the townscape at this location until 2018.
