Start of the mining hiking trail at the ore mine (Mining hiking trail 1)
Glück- Auf Straße 3
59909 Bestwig
The Ramsbeck Mining Trail combines nature experience and industrial culture in a special way. On a well-signposted route, visitors discover the fascinating history of lead and zinc mining, which has shaped Ramsbeck for centuries. Information boards along the way explain historical tunnels, buildings and mining relics.
The circular trail begins at the Ramsbeck Mining Museum and leads past historical sites such as the old hospital and the Protestant church up to the Bastenberg. This is where the oldest evidence of mining can be found, including the Venetian gallery from the 12th century. Further stops are the mining facilities "auf dem Werden", the lead smelter and the former houses of the smelter workers along the Valme.
Another section follows the former trolley railroad to Dörnberg, the later center of mining in Ramsbeck. From here, there are impressive views of the valley, Halden and the landscape shaped by mining.
The mining trail is ideal for anyone who wants to combine history, nature and exercise.
Note: Sturdy footwear is recommended. Use of the hiking trail is at your own risk.
The hike is approx. 10 km long in total, but can also be hiked in sections.
Take the R72 bus (direction Wasserfall) from Bestwig station to Ramsbeck, Ziegelwiese.
