In the 9th century, the parish church became the center of a noble women’s convent. The tower (and thus the first stone church) dates back to between 897 and 913. Following a fire in the 12th century, the current apse with its raised chancel was built.

Beneath the present-day high choir lies the choir area of the pre-Romanesque church, which is open to the public.

Behind walls several meters thick, visitors can admire ancient chalices and much more in the Walburga Church treasury.

A tour of the treasury is only possible by appointment at the parish office!
